Summer gave way to Autumn last week. The rain washed our gardens. The arrival of Autumn provokes two thoughts within me. The first is a reflection on the lessons learned throughout the garden this year. The second is looking forward to a new Spring. I learned that succession planting edibles is important to enjoy fresh vegetables throughout the season. Embracing the beauty of a vegetable garden and its wholesomeness is healing. I’m learning to be more intentional with color in my garden. When I find something I love I plant more of it. There is a Gardenia by my front door that caters to my nose, I’m going to plant more next year.

Lessons learned provide valuable information on how my garden will be shaped next year. There were things that worked and there were things that didn’t work.

When I find myself walking the garden I am simultaneously calmed and reinvigorated. There is a healing power in nature that spans across many cultures. It’s about music and greenness that’s most calming to me.

On October 26th we will open up Maple Rock Gardens. I’ve experienced a garden as restorative and healing, I would like you to come experience Maple Rock.

Join us on this day. The Sacramento Railroad Society will be at the gardens with their Trains and Steam Locomotives. There’s something about a train that brings me back to my childhood. At Maple Rock we have a very extensive Garden Railroad. I invite you to come and enjoy it. Lunch will be available as well as your favorite strolling beverage. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here. Parking is free.

I look forward to seeing you Saturday, October 26th at Maple Rock,

Scott
